Stuff is just more expensive to make at a small scale, especially if it's made well with modular components (which tends to happen with open-source devices)
For example, the MNT Reform may be 1,200 euro, but it also has a milled aluminum chassis, a mech keyboard, and a custom-designed mainboard, along with being hand-assembled
None of those are cheap

    @rosie im aware that things cost more at small scale, and when you dont use slave labor. I just am unconvinced that a 1,200 euro price tag isnt price gouging to make profits. Its a problem of capitalist open-source vs anti-capitalist open-source in my mind

      You can also always compare their bill of materials to what it would cost you to make it yourself
