why is Steam specifically focusing on kernel-level anti-cheat here. so if an anticheat ran as the Windows SYSTEM user, which has full access to any process aside from PPL processes, that somehow doesn't count for disclosure to the end user? is the K-word really so important?
this feels like appealing to reddit knee-jerkers and it sucks. "modifying kernel level files" what. Nothing does this. Safedisc was decades ago
also PunkBuster is kernel-level on Valve's favourite CPU architecture, Legacy Intel i386, so idk why they didn't put a big scary red warning about that
bluesky news: a trick with their facets system allows you to duplicate what you said so as long as you're fine with the rest of your post being an exact copy of the first 300 characters you can post up to 600 characters. i think. maybe longer even
"bluesky does not federate at all" is an extremely annoying of a take but it's technically like 10% right which is more than the 0% right most other annoying misinformation tends to be
I've had people tell me they're jealous of how thin I am. but. Honestly the reason I'm so thin is because I eat like 2.5 meals a day. I say 2.5 because my lunch is usually pretty light if I even have one. Granted, this is FAR better than when I had an actual eating disorder and had a couple of granola bars and sometimes dinner as my meals
Would it fucking kill some of you people to use the content warning feature and just mark your post as political
I've spent way too much time just writing content filters now because it seems we've forgotten fedi has this awesome feature to make posts opt-in
i've got a habit of binging listening to a certain album while i'm really big into a game so any time i listen to that album it reminds me of that game even though otherwise they're completely unrelated. fascinating how music can stick like that. (also goes both ways - the game reminds me of the album)
I remember reading some article dispelling myths around Bluesky and it’s probably aged badly now because Bluesky just launched a Series A funding round worth at least $15 million, with a huge chunk from a blockchain company and a smaller chunk from an explicitly labelled “research-drive crypto venture capital” fund.
Once you accept someone else’s money, you accept someone else’s control. That fifteen million is not a gift and will have to be repaid later in one form or another.
And as we all know… The only way social media can even make any money is growing so unfathomably large that it can make money from it’s users’ data for advertising.
Like for rls, the only two majorly successful social media platforms are:
